                  Pong V 6.0 (c) 1997 sam@greenaum.demon.co.uk
                  ============================================

Well here we are. After months of nowt much, finally, it's still
nowt much, but it's slightly more than it was.

Welcome to my pong prog's documentation. Here it is. Woo! Yeah!
Anyway, it's a Pong sim, I wrote it all by myself. It's a simulation
of an AY-3-8500 type Pong unit. I'm very proud of it. If you have
any philosophical questions about it, or technical ones, ask me, and
I'll include them here. Erm.

Anyway, here's how to play and set it up and that.

In a directory, unzip the ZIP file. It should contain

PONG60.EXE           the program itself
PONG.INI which is the file full of options
PONG.TXT             this doc.
PONGA.PCX a picture of a pong, used in the control panel
PONGB.PCX the same pic, but slightly different. Used together we
                     get a-n-i-m-a-t-i-o-n!
PONGC.PCX the same pic again, for another frame
MASK.PCX the mask for the previous 3 pics. Want details? Ask me.

Also, you will need to have CWSDPMI installed on your computer somewhere.
If it isn't in one of your PATH directories, put it in with this prog.

To play, type

pong60

To play
-------

You'll start off in the excellent game select screen. You
will start off with a very bad drawing of a pong, because nobody
has sent me any photos yet, you set of cunts.

The options are fairly obvious I should think. Pull the plug out to quit.
Touch the dials to play.

The left keys are left ctrl and shift.
The right keys are right ctrl and shift.

Right mouse button serves a new ball
Both mouse buttons together quit the game.

To get back to the option screen, press ALT.

The game is played up to 15 points, then it's over and the bats stop batting.
To play again, reset the game (with the reset button).

PONG.INI
--------

The default INI file should be fine. Most of the details conform
to real pong options. You don't need to change any of them, but you
might like to, to get it just the way you want. Some of the options
don't do anything yet, eg changing the "angle" setting doesn't have
any effect.

[length]=20

Length of the bats. Try setting it to 5 for a laugh.

[speed]=40

Speed of the ball. It's in pixels/16. Ideal values are between
20 and 100, choose what suits you.

[length2]=40
[speed2]=48

These are the same as above. You can choose between the 2 speeds and
lengths by flipping the switches on the console screen.

[colour]=1
[mute]=0

These are the colour/BW game options, and the mute option.

[autoserve]=1

Serve auto / manual.

[leftcontrol]=1
[rightcontrol]=2

The control method for each player.
0=mouse, 1=left keyboard, 2=right keyboard. Both players can use the
same control, handy if you're playing by yourself (fnar!).

[leftx1]=10
[leftx2]=240
[rightx1]=306
[rightx2]=40

These are the X (horizontal) positions of the bats on the screen, for
football and tennis. They can be anything between 0 and 310. If you don't
like the way they are now, change them. Later on I'll go through all
the options and make it accurate.

[nowt]=0

Nowt is a quaint Yorkshire colloquiallism. It means "nothing".

NOTE: All of these sections should be exactly as they are above. IE you can
change the numbers, but not the words. This is because I haven't written a very
good parser for the INI file.

THANKS TO
------------------

Paul Marina, for giving me the idea, and being a big encouragement.
Mark for being interested, and for bugging me after I hadn't updated it for aeons.
Justin Carpenter for calling me a "depraved genius", and making suggestions.
MercuryZ for being a fookin wanker. And a knobhead.
Margaret Duell for being a fat old Geordie bitch who likes pictures of old
ladies in the nude. She does.
The cast of Prisoner: Cell block H.

The game is still not finished. Not far now though, give me a bit. It will
kick arse when it's done, and be the definitive pong emu for the world.

If you have a nice looking Pong unit and a scanner, get in touch and
I'll use it instead of my awful drawing.

Sorry for the lack of updates as always.

Any questions / comments / suggestions email me.

AVOID MISSING BALL FOR HIGH SCORE!
