World Rally (Gaelco 1993)

Dumped for you by ANY ( ANY@retroplay.com )

CPU:
main 1 x 68k @ 12 Mhz (xtal is 24 Mhz)
audio 1 x OKI6293 (there is an xtal near it and it's a 30Mhz ones)

Roms:

2 x Audio ( roms n. C1 and C3)
2 x 68k programm ( C22 and C23)
4 x Gfx (I7, I9, I11 and I13)

On the board there is a cover, under it there's a battery, a Nec43256 ram, a Dallas DS5002Fp and a 5 pins connecotr, that may use to reprogramm somethink.
Near it there is written : "DO NOT OPEN", and on the cover: "DO NOT REMOVE".

I own 2 board of this game (serial n. 6672 and n.15830)
There is some difference from the 2 board.
The first uses 1 otp eprom for sound named C1 the other one uses 2 ST 27c4001
and C3 seem to have a pin (n.30) not insert in the socket.
Other difference is gfx roms the "oldest" uses 2 8 mbits rom instad of 4 ST 27c4001.
in the oldest one there's written on board "REF. 930217"
The code roms is the same.

Why it's not emulated:
World Rally has encrypted video RAM and DS5002FP.

Why it's not emulated II:
The code isn't encrypted afaik, the video ram is, I believe it writes encrypted data
to it and expects to read back other data... its also protected by a lovely dallas mcu.
This one is pretty high on my list of things which I think will probably never be emulated,
not as high as some things, but still pretty high. And information alone can't crack
it anyway, it also takes time, skill & equipment and considering not many people
even seem to have the time to figure out bits of hardware and write trojans anyway
these days I'm not convinced its going to happen any time soon, if at all.
