ROM Dump 86 is a useful program for the TI-86 calculator that will allow you
to dump your calc's ROM out the linkport. In order to save the ROM on disk,
you must have a terminal program with a capture text mode. The one that comes
with Windows 95, Hyperterminal, will not receive the ROM properly due to that
it skips the null byte (0x00). If you don't have a comm program, I suggest
you download Commo at http://www.freenet.tlh.fl.us/~randyg/files/commo70.zip.
After downloading the ROM to your computer, check the number of bytes your
file is. If it is not equal to the amount specified by the calc, you ROM dump
is faulty and useless. The amount of memory for a single ROM page should be
16K and the entire ROM should be 256K.

Dumping the ROM with Commo
--------------------------
Press ALT+P to bring up the modem settings. Press C and adjust the speed to
9600 bps and select the appropriate COM port for your graphlink. Press ALT+1
to bring up the capture file dialog box. Type in the directory and filename
for the file you want to save the ROM as. Before closing the box, press ALT+R
to select raw transfer mode. Press Enter to close the box and then start the
transmission from your calculator. When it is finished sending data, press
ALT+X to quit Commo and save your ROM dump.
