Bcan 0.1.0f — Windows x64 (2026-10-10)
====================================

This update adds a saved choice of Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) or Cantonese
(Hong Kong) for game translations. Build: 20261010-language-01.

Getting started
---------------
1. Extract the entire ZIP into a writable folder and run Bcan.exe.
2. Open Translation > Enable translation and select Traditional Chinese
   (Taiwan) or Cantonese (Hong Kong).
3. Open your own compatible game ROM from the File menu.

The choice can be made before opening a game or during play. Bcan remembers
whether translation is enabled and which language you prefer across games.
Traditional Chinese uses the matching .tw.txt file; Cantonese uses .hk.txt.
If .hk.txt is missing for a game, Bcan uses .tw.txt while retaining your
Cantonese preference for the next game. If neither is available, original
text is shown. An existing but invalid file produces an error instead of
silently reusing an earlier translation.
Select Translation off (original) to display the ROM's original text.
For a Japanese ROM, this means Japanese. A fresh installation starts with
translation off; after upgrading, select your preferred language once.
Newly displayed text uses the selected language. Reopen a menu or revisit
a scene to refresh text already on screen or recovered from an older state.
Next translation language remains available and can be assigned a hotkey.
Included translations work offline without an AI account, ROM analysis,
or an Excel import.

Nine included translation projects
---------------------------------
All nine include both Traditional Chinese and Cantonese text files.
FC / NES:
  Famicom Jump: Eiyuu Retsuden
  Dragon Quest II
  Dragon Quest IV
Dragon Ball: Daimaou Fukkatsu (the second Famicom Dragon Ball game)
  Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Douchuu
SFC / SNES:
  Dragon Quest V
SEGA Game Gear:
Shining Force Gaiden: Ensei, Jashin no Kuni e
Shining Force Gaiden II: Jashin no Kakusei
  Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict

These are supported translation projects, not a claim that every scene has
been translated or tested. ROM identification uses contents, not filenames.
See 中文化版本.txt for supported SHA-256 identities. Other revisions may
not be compatible.

Translation files and editing
-----------------------------
Each localization-projects/<canonical ROM SHA-256>/ folder contains:
<name>.system.bcan Shared rules, source mappings and required text images.
  <name>.tw.txt Traditional Chinese (Taiwan).
  <name>.hk.txt Cantonese (Hong Kong).

Both languages share one system file. Keep system and text versions together;
do not mix files with different line counts or line order.
The package contains no ROMs, BIOS files, font files, player saves, personal
settings or private analysis traces. First use may generate an analysis/
working folder. Some projects create analysis/private/rom.* locally for
verification. Do not redistribute these private working files.
DQ IV and GG title images are included in the system file; no separate PNG
or original title font is required for the supplied text.
Use plain text, Excel or Translation Studio to edit supported text. Preserve
TXT line count and order. Native cell capacity, control markers and timing
still apply; this does not enable arbitrary languages without validation.
Original glyphs are intercepted before rendering; translations use the same
native positions and footprint. No mask is painted over Japanese text.
Translation does not rewrite your original ROM, game logic or player saves.

Other maintenance included
--------------------------
Recent DQ V spell, name and battle display fixes; language-linked fixed text
in Famicom Jump; and rapid-text sound handling in Dragon Ball: Daimaou Fukkatsu.
Earlier high-resolution translation performance improvements and performance
diagnostics are included. Actual sound performance still varies by computer.
SMS/GG cartridges can be opened as .sms/.ms/.gg or a single-game ZIP. SMS games
that support YM2413 FM use it by default. Force FM off disables it after the
game is reloaded. The option does not affect Game Gear or change the region.
No separate FM BIOS is needed.

BIOS requirements and exact filenames
------------------------------------
Supply only the firmware required by the system you use. All paths below
are relative to Bcan.exe. Firmware is not included in this ZIP.

FC/NES cartridges: no BIOS required. The five included FC projects are
cartridge games; this does not imply Famicom Disk System support.

SFC/SNES (including Dragon Quest V):
bios/sfc/ipl.rom — exactly 64 bytes; the SPC700 audio processor boot ROM.
Place the extracted file there, not merely a ZIP containing it.
DQ V needs no additional coprocessor firmware.
Other cartridges may require these files if firmware is not in the ROM:
  bios/sfc/dsp1.rom, dsp1b.rom, dsp2.rom, dsp3.rom, dsp4.rom: 8,192 bytes each.
  bios/sfc/cx4.rom: 3,072 bytes.
  bios/sfc/st010.rom, st011.rom: 53,248 bytes each.
  bios/sfc/st018.rom: 163,840 bytes.
Missing-firmware errors identify the required filename. There is no need
to install every file. Super Game Boy, BS Memory and the second Sufami
Turbo slot are not connected; adding a BIOS will not enable them.

Super A'Can:
bios/supracan.zip must contain exactly these files at the ZIP root:
    internal_68k.bin 4,096 bytes
    internal_6502_1.bin 8,192 bytes
    internal_6502_2.bin 8,192 bytes
  bios/umc6650.zip must contain exactly:
    umc6650.bin 16 bytes
These provide CPU startup and sound hardware data. Do not nest directories
or add documentation inside the ZIPs. Alternatively, put all four BINs
  directly under bios/ without the ZIPs. Existing ZIPs take priority;
invalid ZIPs do not silently fall back to loose files.

Gamate:
bios/gamate.zip must contain at least one of:
    gamate_bios_umc.bin 4,096 bytes
    gamate_bios_bit.bin 4,096 bytes
Both are allowed; UMC takes priority. These initialize the console and
cartridge. Loose files with those exact names under bios/ are also accepted.

Master System / Game Gear: the current direct cartridge boot mode needs
no additional BIOS. Cartridge RAM is stored in save/sega-<game hash>/save.ram.

Super A'Can Super Guang Ming Zhan Shi split ROM
---------------------------------------------
Open a ZIP containing both complete parts. Bcan identifies their contents
by size and CRC32, so the ZIP name, internal filenames and ordering may vary.
The original MAME names are reference labels only:
  16007.0: 2,097,152 bytes, CRC32 56C1C3FB
  08007.1: 1,048,576 bytes, CRC32 FC79F05F
Use a normal unencrypted Store/Deflate ZIP with both parts and no extra files.
Missing, duplicate or damaged parts are rejected. Renaming cannot fix damage,
and this special handling does not combine arbitrary two-file game archives.

Updating and reporting issues
-----------------------------
Close Bcan before updating. Preserve save/, Bcan.ini, snap/, record/ and your
own edited translations. Compare existing files before overwriting personal
text. The release is not a request to delete player data.
If older authoring data conflicts with a new system file, preserve it and
follow the error details, or test a clean extracted installation first.
Default shortcuts: F5 save state, F6 next slot, F7 load state, F8 screenshot,
F9/F10 start/stop recording. Screenshots and recordings use the displayed
game-window dimensions. Other controls can be configured in Input settings.
When reporting problems, include game/ROM version, translation language,
font scale, reproduction steps and the diagnostic report.
