8/21/05: I hooked a button to the unused NMI and added an interupt handler to give me a pause button. I don’t print anything to the screen, but I invert the video so you know it’s paused. From there you can hit start to return to the game or fire to go to the menu. I’m not sure what the pause is going to do to the sound since I managed to break the sound earlier today. It’s odd since the sound is kind of self contained and I haven’t messed with it today, I haven’t had time to track it down. I looked at nvram coinage, and it looks like a real pain, I don’t think I’m going to do it. At least not yet.
