I did get to thinking about rotscale eventually. With some useful debugging help from sgstair and mic, I eventually got some useful output from mic’s mode2rot test. Check out the screenshots for an image of this useful output.
Note, there’re still no multiple backgrounds in any of the tiled modes, and no multiple sized backgrounds either. They’ll come along before long, don’t worry.
