Changelog / Grandes lignes

– Simpler setup: A new setup wizard helps you select game folders, import an optional Wii NAND and configure system files. It also decodes GameCube IPL files automatically. With Dolphin’s DSP replacements and Hazel’s IPL HLE, most games can now boot without providing console system dumps. Real dumps are still supported.

– Texture packs: Added support for Dolphin-style texture packs in the Gecko app and tinyapp. Place compatible packs in texturepacks// and enable them through the graphics settings.

– Colors and transparency: Fixed Mario’s missing eyes in Super Mario Galaxy and the white ocean in Super Mario Sunshine’s save selection screen. Related fixes improve transparency in Xenoblade Chronicles and rendering in PokéPark. More details: Mario’s Missing Eyes and Sunshine’s White Ocean.

– Mario Golf fixes: Menu signs in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour no longer disappear behind the sky and the stray triangle stretching from Luigi’s hand is gone. These fixes add support for two previously missing GPU features: z-freeze and vertex-skip.

– Geometry and depth fixes: Fixed leftover graphics data spilling into later commands, which could produce broken geometry such as the huge triangles seen in Metroid Prime. Also fixed flickering shoreline foam in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’s introduction. More details: WPAR: Why Metroid Prime’s Geometry Exploded.

– Textures and lighting: Added mipmaps and texture preloading, fixing rendering in Cel Damage. Corrected texture scaling fixes text in Mario Superstar Baseball. This update also improves lighting and fixes green flashes during rendering.

– Rendering performance: Moved texture decoding onto the GPU and reduced unnecessary copying of textures, vertices and framebuffer data. Improved shader caching helps reuse previously compiled shaders, including after loading a savestate.

– Sam & Max: Season One: Fixed a filesystem crash, a menu freeze and a Vulkan graphics performance issue. Combined with improvements to memory access and vertex uploads, the game now runs substantially better.

– CPU performance: Improved several frequently used CPU instructions, addressing major slowdowns in Mario Kart Wii’s menus when videos are playing. Also corrected how the JIT handles certain loops and branches.

– Audio and video: Fixed audio in games such as Crazy Taxi, corrected an audio-memory transfer issue blocking Metroid Prime and fixed video playback issues in Donald Duck: Quack Attack’s introduction. Several underlying audio timing and interrupt bugs were also addressed.

– Wii compatibility: Added missing system calls and support for games reloading IOS and reopening their disc. Mario Kart Wii can now start with a freshly generated NAND thanks to filesystem fixes and offline WiiConnect24 setup.

– Wii controls: Added separate upright and sideways Wiimote presets, configurable Nunchuk attachment and more stick-mapping options. Improved motion input was tested with Mario Kart Wii using a PS5 controller. Pointer fixes address the disappearing cursor in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and the Gecko player now supports mouse capture.

– Launcher and display: Game libraries scan faster and more game banners display correctly. Aspect-ratio settings now reach the Wii’s system configuration, fixing alignment problems in games such as Epic Mickey. Screenshots also preserve the selected aspect ratio.

– Savestates and storage: Fixed savestate issues encountered in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and improved restoration of graphics and audio state. Settings, saves and other data now use the working directory instead of the executable directory, unless GECKO_DATA_DIR is set.

– Developer tools and builds: FIFO Player now includes an interactive 3D depth view to help investigate rendering problems. Added profiling tools and corrected the linker configuration for Windows ARM64 builds.
